Fighting with bigger opponents
Demonstrator: Joshua Class: General Level: Intermediate
Strategy: Fighting with bigger person is always a challenge, as they do tend to keep coming and can treat you like a speed bump.
Bigger opponents will have the power advantage so if you go toe to toe, exchanging blows, one for one you will loose.
You must always direct the fight where you have the advantage and where you can exploit opponent's weaknesses.
Bigger opponents aren't as mobile and don't have as much endurance. They will be happy to go toe to toe and bang away at their leisure.
Smaller fighters should have better footwork to control the distance and if the smaller person is more experienced, they can also use better timing and accuracy and set the pace and waiting patiently until the bigger opponent starts to wane before mixing it properly.
Always make sure the bigger opponent has big gloves that are in good condition. I have been caught with that one!
Good news in training is, you can hit a bigger opponent a little harder; bad news is, if ever they hit you properly you are gone. |
