Gym gloves are great for keeping sweaty palms off gym equipment giving you a more reliable grip whilst protecting the hands from blisters and calluses. Some gym gloves have an extra long wide Velcro strap to adjust the fit and to give some support to the wrists so they can be used as weight lifting gloves. Hand wraps can also be used under the gloves to give more complete wrist support.
For a better grip and feel gym gloves generally have the fingers cut down to at least half way. This also gives better ventilation keeping the hands cooler, which reduces sweating. Also to keep the hands cooler and increase airflow many gym gloves use a mesh type of fabric. Gym gloves have to be extra tough so leather is still the preferred choice with added patches in the main work areas being the palm, inner thumb and inner fingers.

Types of Gym Gloves
At Universal Self Defence online store you can buy many different types of gym gloves. For boot camp type training and also popular with the military are the Boot Camp Workout Camo Gloves. Even though they are an economy priced glove, the camouflage glove design looks great and they are a tough glove and made with cowhide leather.
The cotton inner gloves are not worn by themselves for the gym but are worn inside gloves to help stop your gloves filling full of sweat and acquiring a bacteria smell that is hard to get rid of. It’s much easier to wash or replace the cotton inner gloves once you feel they have reached their use by date. Wearing cotton inner gloves are a must if you are going to share gloves. Inner cotton gloves are also ideal for wearing inside boxing gloves or just about any type of sporting glove that you wish preserve longer without the odour getting into them.
Morgan weight lifting and weight training gloves are also in the gym gloves category. These are mostly leather, although some are a combination of leather, Lycra and neoprene rubber. Suede leather is also used as is absorbs the sweat and provides a good grip. Morgan is the most popular gym gloves brand at Universal Self Defence and also Smai brand has a very popular fitness workout gym gloves with a double wrap around Lycra wrist strap.
The neoprene rubber Enduro weight lifting gloves are very popular multipurpose training gloves used for weightlifting, general gym use, endurance training, light boxing ball work, cycling and boot camp training as they are great for indoor or outdoor training use.
There is also specially designed CrossFit Endurance Training Gloves with leather palm, fingers and thumbs with padded inserts strategically positioned in all the high work areas.
For the ladies that like to train hard and look good there is the Morgan Ladies Pink Weight Lifting Gloves, which has a very unique styling and breathable airflow mesh material so the girls can stay cool while they workout.

Cleaning Gym Gloves
Gym gloves are best to be hand washed with soap and warm water. If thrown in the washing machine or clothes dryer the leather will not be happy and the wrist strap may get caught up and rip the gym gloves so don’t risk it. Leather doesn’t like the heat of the clothes dryer or baking in the hot sun drying out for too long either so it is best to avoid the harsh direct sunlight. You can treat the leather with a little bit of leather oil every now and then for longer life. If you wear cotton hand wraps or inner cotton gloves inside your gym gloves you can often get away with just wiping your gym gloves over with a damp clean cloth. Never leave sweaty damp gym gloves in a bag for any long period of time. You need to keep gym gloves dry and a little anti-bacteria spray is also a good idea to help kill off any unpleasant odours.
