Weight lifting and weight training CrossFit gloves can not only be good for weight training and weightlifting but also for many other activities where you have friction causing wear and tear on your hands.
Other times where you may use weight lifting gloves are rope climbing, swinging a sledgehammer, chin ups, bike riding, rowing, fitness gym rings, gravity suspension units and other CrossFit and fitness rope training activities.
You can also use weight lifting gloves for punching the inflated boxing speed balls and the floor to ceiling suspended boxing balls as you do not need gloves with padding just a pair of light cut finger gloves so you can protect the skin on your knuckles.

The most popular brands of weight lifting and fitness weight training gloves at Universal Self Defence are Morgan and Smai.

The main benefit of wearing weightlifting gloves is so you do not end up with thick callouses or blisters. Many people do not like the feel or look of callouses and find them to be uncomfortable and unsightly, although some people actually like to have calloused hands so their skin becomes tougher and more durable.

Never start your workout not remembering to wear your protective gloves or forget to wear them before its too late as just the smallest amount of friction can take skin off your hands making it to painful to continue.

Apart from protecting your hands weightlifting gloves can also help in maintaining a better grip by stopping the friction that would normally cause you to let go. Many of the weightlifting gloves at Universal Self Defence also come with an extra wide long Velcro wrist strap that you can adjust and pull tight for added wrist support which can help to prevent joint strain and injury.

Leather & Neoprene Rubber Weight Lifting Gloves
Most weight lifting gloves are made using leather and maybe combined with Neoprene rubber, Lycra, Spandex and/or breathable mesh material for better airflow ventilation and a more comfortable fit.
Morgan Neoprene and rubber Endura weight lifting gloves offer a popular alternative to leather gloves as they are easier to wipe clean and dry off faster and provide a very good grip. Neoprene weight lifting gloves are the best gloves for outdoor activities when its wet. The only drawback with Neoprene weight lifting gloves is your hands do tend to sweat a bit more.

Weight Lifting Gloves Cleaning
It is most important to properly clean and wash your weightlifting gloves and dry them out after every workout so they do not build up bacteria odour. If they are leather gloves they may also go mouldy if you do not keep them clean and dry.
The best way to wash your weight lifting gloves is by hand washing with soap or detergent and warm water so as to remove all the sweat and greasy grime. The easiest hand wash method is to wear the gloves whilst you wash the outside of the gloves and rub them with a firm sponge or soft brush. Then you also open the gloves and wash the inside with a sponge or cleaning cloth. Once your gloves are nice and clean you need to thoroughly rinse them and dry them out.
It is best not to use washing machines and clothes dryers as they may damage the gloves and the wrist strap may get tangled and caught up in the wash and tear. Neoprene and leather gloves do not like being baked the hot summer sun. Always store your gloves in a dry well ventilated area and never leave your weightlifting gloves in your damp and dark gym bag as it will encourage the growth of bacteria and mould.
It is a good idea to have an extra pair of weight lifting gloves so you can keep on training whilst one pair of gloves are drying out then you will be never out of action. To help preserve your leather weightlifting gloves you should occasionally apply leather oil lotion and so your gloves and other gear stay hygienically clean and smell nice do not forget to the anti-bacteria spray.
